Hardware research capture

Measure a real calculator’s RNG

Plug in a TI-84 Plus CE. This page safely backs up any existing lwIP runtime, installs the capture build, runs the profiler, retrieves its AppVar, and lets you restore the calculator afterward.

What data is collected
RNGSTAT samples a selected, potentially entropic calculator bit for coarse min-entropy analysis. The submitted data contains windowed statistical counts derived from those samples, the calculator model and hardware revision/version, and capture/build metadata. The raw bitstream is not submitted.
Who receives it
The report is sent to the lwIP-CE project developers through CagsCalcLabs. Accepted reports are retained under the project’s statistics/rng folder and feed the RNG analysis in the project whitepaper.
What is preserved
If lwIP is already installed, its Flash app and matching AppVar are backed up only in this browser's temporary memory. They are never submitted and can be restored after the capture. A diagnostic log of browser, WebTILP, and transfer status messages is retained in this tab's session storage so it survives a reload; it is never submitted. No calculator serial number, capture payload, or unrelated calculator files are intentionally written to that log.

Keep this page open and the calculator connected until you choose whether to restore its previous lwIP runtime.

Ready
  1. 1
Connect calculatorAuthorize the TI device in your browser.
  2. 2
Install runtimeExisting lwIP is backed up, removed, and the complete capture build is installed.
  3. 3
Run profilerThe site launches RNGSTAT and waits for eight windows.
  4. 4
Collect & validateRNGSTATS is retrieved and checked before submission.
  5. 5
Restore or keepChoose whether to keep the capture build or restore the previous runtime.
Enter the revision printed on the back of the calculator. WebTILP will fill in the calculator-reported hardware version when available; you can replace it with the printed revision.

Connect your calculator directly by USB, close TI Connect CE, and leave the calculator on its home screen.

Technical log

This capture estimates binary marginal min-entropy. It is not, by itself, a complete NIST SP 800-90B non-IID assessment.
